Mt. Ashwabay
Located 15 mins from Northwoods Chalet is Mt. Ashwabay.

The trail system covers 40 km of classic and skate skiing trails with varying difficulty, including excellent elevation climbs to the top of Mt. Ashwabay. All trails are groomed and tracked regularly. Check HERE for current conditions. Purchase your trail pass online or at the chalet during open hours.

To access the trailhead turn south from Brickyard Creek Rd on HWY 13, turning west onto Ski Hill Road for 1 mile, and the trailhead is at the top of the hill on the right.
Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest
Located 25 mins from Northwoods Chalet is Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and Valhalla Recreation Area. This area serves as some of the best gravel and mountain bike riding in the country.

Along the routes, stop for a picnic or swim at one of the lakes along the way.

Twin Lakes and Birch Campground is east of FR 252 and FR 435.

Long Lake Picnic Area is east of the route on FR 251.

Horse Shoe Lake is along FR 427

These routes are easily modified to suit varying distances.
To access the Valhalla Recreation Area from Brickyard Creek Rd turn south onto HWY 13. Travel through Washburn and turn west onto HWY C for 8 miles, the parking lot is on the south side of the road.

There is a $5 day-use pass for this recreation site. The Forest Service has an annual pass available for $30 and can be purchased the Washburn Ranger District office.
